Taipei, Taiwan – In a significant move to strengthen its position in the global semiconductor market, ASE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. (ASE), a leading provider of IC packaging and testing services, has announced the acquisition of a plant in Kaohsiung from Win Semiconductors Corp. (WinSemi). This strategic purchase marks a substantial investment in expanding ASE's advanced IC assembly capabilities, catering to the growing demand for sophisticated semiconductor solutions.

The acquisition, confirmed yesterday, involves a state-of-the-art facility previously operated by WinSemi, a renowned manufacturer of radio frequency (RF) chips. This plant is particularly well-suited for advanced IC assembly processes, aligning perfectly with ASE’s focus on high-value, cutting-edge technologies.

Why Kaohsiung? Kaohsiung, a major industrial hub in southern Taiwan, offers a strategic location for ASE's expansion. The region boasts a robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and proximity to key customers and suppliers within the semiconductor ecosystem. This makes it an ideal location to support ASE’s continued growth and innovation.

Boosting Advanced IC Assembly Capacity: The primary driver behind this acquisition is the need to increase ASE’s capacity for advanced IC assembly. The semiconductor industry is experiencing unprecedented demand, particularly in areas like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and automotive electronics. These applications require increasingly complex and sophisticated packaging solutions, which ASE is well-positioned to provide.

“This investment demonstrates ASE’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers and solidifying our leadership in the IC packaging and testing industry,” stated a spokesperson for ASE. “The Kaohsiung plant will play a crucial role in enabling us to deliver advanced solutions and support the growth of key technology trends.”

Win Semiconductors' Perspective: For WinSemi, the sale of the Kaohsiung plant allows the company to focus on its core RF chip manufacturing business. The transaction represents a mutually beneficial agreement, enabling both companies to pursue their respective strategic objectives.

Looking Ahead: ASE plans to integrate the Kaohsiung plant into its existing network of global facilities, leveraging its expertise and resources to maximize its operational efficiency and technological capabilities. This acquisition is expected to significantly contribute to ASE’s revenue growth and strengthen its competitive advantage in the dynamic semiconductor landscape. Industry analysts anticipate that this move will further solidify ASE's position as a global leader in advanced IC packaging and testing services.

The deal is expected to close in the coming months, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
