Lawrence Township, New Jersey – Are you a seasoned financial professional with a passion for public service? Lawrence Township is on the hunt for a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO)/Director of Finance to lead our financial operations and ensure fiscal responsibility for our community.

This pivotal role oversees critical departments, including the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor, making it essential to have a strong understanding of municipal finance principles and practices. We’re looking for someone who can not only manage the day-to-day financial activities but also contribute to strategic planning and long-term financial stability for Lawrence Township.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the Township Manager and Township Council.
  • Oversee the preparation and management of the Township budget, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Manage all aspects of the Township's financial operations, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Supervise and mentor the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor departments, ensuring efficient and accurate tax collection and assessment processes.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to safeguard Township assets and ensure transparency.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Township Council and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations related to municipal finance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in municipal finance.
  • Possession of a New Jersey Certified Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO) license is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, prepare financial statements, and analyze financial data.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of governmental accounting principles (GAAP).
